We are the UCS Porg. Resistance is futile...Why?

Porgs. First thing that comes to mind is a MASSIVE marketing ploy. It was a way for the new Star Wars trilogy to have an Ewok of some sort. LEGO is about to do the same, selling an Ultimate Collector’s Edition Porg. Let’s dive into that rumor!

With LEGO’s extensive history with the Star Wars franchise it was only right to include Progs in their lineup of creatures. With its first appearance in set 75192 Millennium Falcon included two built around the same size as a minifigure BB-8. Some people (including me) were surprised they were included as part of the crews for this set. Then in a more affordable set 75200 Ahch-To Island Training so more people could have one. Now there is consideration, well a 99.9999% chance of a UCS Porg. Here are all the facts we have.

  • Around 800 pieces (about the size of BB-8)

  • Images leaked (still watermarked so will not be posted, but easy to find)

  • Possibly set number 75230

  • brickshop.nl posted

All in all very strong case that we are getting a UCS Porg. But. The question remains to some degree, why? Sure it was a cute addition to TLJ, but not a significant one. LEGO has made some character UCS sets in the past (10018 Darth Maul in 2001 and 7194 Yoda in 2002). But why aren’t we getting something more iconic, like an Ewok or even a C-3P0 to go with our R2-D2? Maybe in time! Let LEGO (Disney) ride the wave of marketing popularity.
